Safe Deposit Box FAQs
What is a safe deposit box?
A safe deposit box is a locked container housed within a secure bank vault. It is designed to protect important documents and valuables from theft, fire, and unexpected loss.
How do I access my safe deposit box?
Access requires a dual-key system—one key held by you and one held by the bank. Both keys are required for entry. For added security, identification is verified each time you access your box.
Who can access my safe deposit box?
Only the individuals listed as owners or authorized signers on the account may access the safe deposit box.
What types of items should I store?
Safe deposit boxes are ideal for items you want to keep secure but do not need to access regularly, such as: Legal and personal documents, Family heirlooms and sentimental items, Financial certificates and records, Jewelry and other high-value possessions.
What should NOT be stored in a safe deposit box?
We recommend avoiding storage of items that may be needed quickly or in emergencies, including: Passports and primary identification, Original wills or medical directives, Powers of attorney documents, Cash. Because access is limited to branch hours, these items are best kept in a secure but immediately accessible location.
Are safe deposit box contents insured?
No. Safe deposit box contents are not insured by the FDIC or DIF. Customers may choose to obtain private insurance for additional protection.
Can I store cash in my safe deposit box?
We do not recommend storing cash in a safe deposit box. Funds held in insured deposit accounts provide greater security and immediate access when needed.
